ACTIVITIES
The Material and Welding Engineer will be acting as specialist within the SPS Engineering team and assisting the SPS Engineering Manager and sub-systems engineers for all technical matters related to SPS Material and welding activities (Material, fabrication, welding & NDE including XTree, Manifold, Connection Systems and Controls Systems (as applicable) piping, forgings, bends, tubing, structural elements, etc ...) performed by SPS, Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Vendors.
The Material and Welding Engineer is based in Lagos but is expected to highly mobile with work initially focused on the SPS supply chain in Europe. The geographic area of focus is expected to shift to Nigeria as the in-country fabrication and assembly program commences. She / He will be in charge of:-
• Reviewing all relevant Engineering / Qualification / Manufacturing / Fabrication / Testing documents throughout all project phases. This includes typically material selection, specifications, welding procedures, welding qualifications, testing procedures, ITP, technical reports, etc ...
• Attendance at Contract Kick-Off and Pre Production Meetings (PPM) in Nigeria and Internationally, as required, to ensure that materials specification, test and welding requirements have been accurately promulgated to, and understood by, the Contractor and its suppliers
• Liaison with Company technical specialists, as required, to ensure conformance to Company standards by SPS Contractor. Ensuring that any deviations to materials and / welding issues are formalised with respective Company functional departments.
• Attend / Witness / Approve Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), ensuring compliance with Industry and Company Specifications. Work pro-actively with SPS Contractor and Supply Chain to reach acceptable solutions for WPS / PQR and materials related matters ensuring that technical integrity is not compromised whilst protecting schedule.
• Provide feedback on SPS Contractor and supply chain performance and designs, proposing changes to Project Specific Specifications (PPS) and /or Company General Specifications (GS) on welding / materials testing issues. Provide forms, for approval, for entry into Company REX / QFN database
• Assisting in resolution of interface issues as necessary
• Assisting in analysis of SPS Contractor technical queries and preparation of comments and proposed answers to these queries
• Ensuring that materials related, Engineering / Qualification / Manufacturing / Fabrication / Testing activities are performed in line with Contract requirement and Project Specifications,
• Ensuring that Engineering / Qualification / Manufacturing / Fabrication / Testing activities are performed in line with Client’s general specifications and issue proper derogations, if required
• Establishing / updating technical specifications as necessary
• Conducting inspection of VENDOR’s facilities as necessary in particular at qualification stage to ensure adherence to qualified process and prevent deviations
• Providing technical assistance and relevant quality controls during pre-fabrication and site construction
• Reporting to the SPS Engineering Manager and DGM on a regular basis, and to Project’s Management upon request
• Proposing technical solutions / way forward in case of unexpected difficulties during the project development.
• Developing and preparing as need be technical reports
• Ensuring that HSE requirements are taken into consideration during design
• Getting assistance from Client’s Specialists, or third parties, if required, for specific topics
• Getting feedback from other deepwater projects on pipelines and risers
• Participating in various technical reviews (Hazids, Hazops, Project Technical Reviews …)
• Maintain tracking logs for actions engineering actions related to Metallurgy and Welding Issues.
• Compile list of lesson learned / feedback for Metallurgy and Welding Issues on a monthly basis throughout Project Execution. Convert, in consultation with the SPS Engineering Manager into formal feedback utilising Company QFN and . or REX systems.
• Prepare close-out Report for Welding / Metallurgy issues.

HSE
• To fully comply with office security, health and safety instructions.
• To stay vigilant and maintain continuous awareness of hazards and surroundings.
• To report to Management on any issue they may face or observe and propose way of improvement.
• To also take care of colleagues safety and behaviour without hesitating to intervene as much as necessary.
• To give his own input and making sure the workplace is safe (obviously clean and tidy).
• In doubt to ask questions to gain clarification.
• To fully comply with Security rules about Travelling in Nigeria.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Reports directly to the SPS Engineering Manager
• Accountable for the proper implementation of Project Technical requirements (Project Specifications, Client’s General Specifications and International codes) as well as good industry practices regarding material and welding aspects

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Material, Welding & NDE Lead Engineer with ten years experience in the Oil and Gas or Petrochemical Industries
• Graduate Welding Engineer (or equivalent)
• Good knowledge of international design codes / standards and COMPANY general specifications
• Placement is primarily in Lagos, Nigeria with the potential for international trips to Europe.
• Fluent in English both verbally and in writing
