Christian Aid is partnering with others to end poverty in Africa. At the heart of this vision is transformation of the lives of people who live in poverty, empowering them to have a brighter future.

In 20 countries across the continent, we manage a wide range of programmes that have a positive impact on the lives of millions, and while we’ve achieved some incredible results, there’s still a lot we can do.

Which is why we are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled individual to lead the Nigeria country team in delivering this exciting programme, and achieving ever greater levels of impact and transformation with our partners, allies and donors.

You could be working for a multi-national company or feel your ambition and entrepreneurial flair are being stifled by a traditional NGO environment. Either way, this is a once-in-a- lifetime chance to use your talent for mobilising people and resources, and make a very real difference to those living in poverty.

As Country manager you will bring entrepreneurial skills to develop new opportunities, alliances and partnerships. You will have excellent people and performance management skills. Your experience in programme management needs to be matched by your ability to act as an ambassador for Christian Aid and your commitment to communications and advocacy within the organisation as a whole. You will preferably have knowledge of humanitarian and emergency response programming and will have a proactive approach to leading and delivering the changes needed to ensure we maximise the quality and impact of our Nigeria country programme. You will be committed to your own learning and development and that of your team and will have developed abilities in strategic planning and implementation. You will have a clear vision and a determined passion to make a lasting contribution to the eradication of poverty in Nigeria.

Essential criteria

Minimum of a tertiary degree or equivalent. Ideally the focus in education will be on International development and/or a related certification in management.

Significant experience of International development work including project management.

Experience of working with organisations in the Global South, emergency and rehabilitation work, partnership with local and church partners, fundraising from and liaison with back donors.

A strong understanding of the drivers of poverty and its eradication are important to the role.

A first hand understanding of the country within which this post is based is essential.

Excellent oral and written communications.
