Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

CONTEXT Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) of IOM Nigeria, and under direct supervision of the Program Officer for Labour Migration, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the multi-year European Union funded IOM project, “Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria”, with particular emphasis on the components on Labour Migration and Diaspora Mobilization.

CORE FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in planning, preparing, organising and implementing all aspects of the project activities. • Assist in timely reporting on project activities according to IOM and donor formats as required, contribute to and/or prepare progress updates on project activities. • Assist with in-house coordination among the different sections of the project. • Research, compile and present information on developments on new trends and policies in the field of migration in the country (including legal information) for successful implementation of the project activities. • Assist in proper documentation of project documents and filing. • Contribute to the revision of the project log frame, indicators and work plan, as needed, and in connection with project reviews. • Track project expenditure for the Labour Migration and Diaspora Mobilization component, serve as focal point for administrative coordination of program implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with other organizational units. • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of project activities; Draft program status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and suggesting remedial actions. • Respond to complex information requests and enquiries related to program activities. Support liaison with relevant governmental and non-governmental entities, international organizations as well as other relevant stakeholders for the effective implementation of the activities of the project. • Represent IOM at coordination meetings with government counterparts, NGOs and other stakeholders where required. • Support visibility and communication activities related to the project. • Assist in the planning, preparation and logistics of seminars, conferences, workshops, meetings, presentations and in-coming and out-going missions. • Undertake duty travel when necessary. • Identify needs and possibilities and Support the development of new projects. • Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Technical a) strong planning, coordination and logistics skills related to implementation of complex activities required; b) must have strong communication skills, including good oral and written English and good computer skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point); c) ability to independently carry out tasks, proactivity, ability to multi-task and to prioritize also required; d) ability to work effectively with government counterparts; e) understanding of the Nigerian public administration system. Knowledge of social and development issues in Nigeria, particularly related to labour issues, migration and diaspora. Good representational skills. Desirable Qualifications and Experiences a) university degree in Social Sciences/Humanities/Development Studies or related area; b) experience of project implementation in Nigeria is required, preferably in the fields of labour and/or migration management; c) experience of working for an international organization and in a multicultural environment desirable; d)work experience related to migration, diaspora mobilization and especially government institutions capacity building programs desirable; e) experience of supporting all aspects of project management and familiarity with international standards and EU regulations a plus. Language Thorough knowledge of written and spoken English.
