We have been asked by a client, the leading heavy equipment solutions and services provider across West Africa, to source suitable applicants for a Managing Director’s role, based either in Liberia or Nigeria.

This company plays a pivotal role in building vital infrastructure, promoting West Africa's resources sector while providing essential services and development to their communities.

 

Managing Director – West Africa - 200k

 

Job description

 

Purpose:

The role is a key one in the Company and the incumbent is expected to take part in a range of planning and strategy activities for the region acting as the Company senior representative at a local level. The primary purpose of this role is to manage all activities for the territory covered as well as providing support to other business units as required.

 

Key Deliverables:

  • Developing business and strategic relationships in country
  • Investigating and proposing development opportunities
  • Management of key accounts
  • Tender proposals and review
  • Support of the rental fleet in country
  • Support of company policies
  • Management of On Site and regional staff
  • Cost control for operational assets
  • Development of operational plans and budgets
  • Reporting of operational performance to plans and budgets

 

Key accountabilities

  • Revenue Generation – identify, qualify, manage and secure new business opportunities
  • Customer Relationships - proactively devise & implement customer relationship management strategies and maintain a strong profile in the customer’s eyes throughout the territor
  • Business Unit Financial Management - manage the activities of the business unit in order to meet or exceed budget net profit
  • Operations – by contributing, ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the business unit
  • Service Operations  - ensure the effective operation of the Service Department by effective management of the equilibrium of resources to workload and business requirements
  • Leadership - create a high performance focused culture through personal leadership, motivation, teamwork and the development of individual accountability for performance in order to ensure the achievement of key business targets
  • Health, Safety & Environment - ensure that the Company’s Health, Safety and Environment policies are complied with at all times and that Health, Safety and Environment is an integral part of all work practices
  • Quality - make quality an integral part of all work practice by ensuring that high quality work is an objective which all employees consider to be paramount. “Done right, done well, done once”

Desired Skills and Experience

Experience

  • At least 15 years’ experience in the construction or earthmoving industries with some previous experience in a front line leadership role
  • Sales experience.

 

Qualifications

  • As a minimum, formal secondary qualification is desirable.
  • Formal training in leadership is preferred

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Competent with MS applications including Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • A working knowledge of relevant HR, Health and Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Commercial and financial skills.
  • Understanding of heavy earthmoving and construction industries.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CAT/Volvo/Komatsu products.
  • Sound understanding of operational processes.
  • Highly customer focused.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrates sound leadership skills including the ability to coach, develop and manage performance.
