Programme officer (Cook stove), Community Health and HIV, Nigeria

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person for the position of Programme Officer, Community Health and HIV to support Christian Aid partnerships and programmes.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and managing Christian Aid partnerships and programmes, as well as the effective disbursement of funds to Christian Aid partners. He/she will represent Christian Aid, contribute to the development of Christian Aid policy and strategy, as well as engage with and promote communications and fundraising, including from institutional donors.

The ideal candidate must possess a degree in a development/business management -related subject. He/she must have at least five years’ working experience in community based small scale business development or entrepreneurship development for poor/low income populations.

He/she must have experience in Pro-Poor Market Development (PPMD) approach and can lead on exciting new markets and private sector work, with the ability to support partners. He/she must have experience in supporting advocacy work to ensure systemic interventions aimed at creating an enabling environment for the poor to participate more effectively in markets. Emphasis will be placed on a candidate who is able to demonstrate substantial experience in supporting poor people to grow small and medium scale businesses.

Essential criteria

  • Substantive experience in private sector and business model development
  • Extensive understanding of pro poor market development approaches and market access work
  • Significant technical and business expertise in Cook stoves publicity, commercialisation and household adoption
  • Significant experience in working with local partner organisations
  • Knowledge and competency in gender-sensitive programming
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Appreciable experience in research, evaluations and knowledge management
  • Experience of managing institutional donor-funded projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively represent Christian Aid at national, state and local levels
  • Advanced skills in computer application
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

Desirable criteria

  • Skills and experience in  national, state and local advocacy and lobbying processes
  • In-depth understanding and familiarity with DFID, EU,COMIC RELIEF and/or USAID funding and reporting requirements
  • Familiarity in working with community and faith based institutions in Nigeria.
  • Post graduate degree in Business Management or Entrepreneurship development will be an advantage
  • Experience and knowledge of community health interventions in Nigeria

Programme officer (Malaria), Community health and HIV, Nigeria

 

In line with Christian Aid Corporate strategy, our Community Health and HIV programmes have evolved over the past year to support local partners and poor people to exercise their rights to health and related services. We are currently expanding our malaria prevention component, taking into consideration the health priorities of the communities where we work and empowering them to demand quality health services. To do this, we are looking for a dynamic and motivated person for the position of Programme Officer, Community Health and HIV to support Christian Aid partnerships and programmes.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and managing Christian Aid partnerships and programmes as well as the effective disbursement of funds to Christian Aid partners. He/she will represent Christian Aid, contribute to the development of Christian Aid policy and strategy, as well as engage with and promote communications and fundraising, including institutional donors.

He/she will provide technical support to partners to develop organisational plans; providing support in designing effective malaria programmes. The role requires a self-motivated, dynamic and innovative person, with extensive knowledge of Community Health issues in Nigeria, teamwork and coordination skills and experience in managing partnerships with local organisations. The ideal candidate must possess a degree in international development/public health-related subject. He/she must have at least five years’ working experience in Community Health with significant experience in implementing and/or managing community-based malaria interventions.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive knowledge of the national response to Malaria in Nigeria
  • At least five years’ experience in Malaria intervention programmes in Nigeria (Extensive experience in community based Malaria response will be an added advantage)
  • Significant experience in working with local partner organisations
  • Knowledge and competency in gender-sensitive programming
  • Experience of managing institutional donor-funded projects
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively represent Christian Aid at national, state and local levels
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
