Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, Director Flight Operations

 

Job description

A newly established scheduled services carrier in Lagos, Nigeria requires the services of highly competent and experienced candidates for the following roles.

  1. 1.   Managing Director

Provides oversight to the scheduled services carrier. This position is located at Lagos, Nigeria and will be reporting to the President/Chairman. Position serves as focal point on ATC, flight dispatch, operations engineering, and airport operational issues on behalf of the carrier

  • Liaison between government (Ministry), regualtory (NCAA) and airport company (FAAN).
  • Drive organization’s strategic vision as the chief marketing officer.
  • Provide data analysis and technical assistance in areas of responsibility to carrier.
  • Participate in other Council/Committee meetings and activities as directed.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of airline operational control procedures, air traffic control and traffic flow management is paramount.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in related fields required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation-related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Absolute integrity and sense of ‘fair play’ required in dealings.
  • Strong public speaking skills and excellent writing skills are required, with ability to develop and deliver impactful messages to a variety of audiences.
  1. 2.   Chief Operating Officer 

Responsible to the Managing Director for providing leadership, tactical direction and oversight for the entire operations of the business to ensure efficient and safe flight operations. Responsibility for the Flight Operations annual business plan and budgets. He ensures the establishment and optimization of day-to-day operations in the company.

 

  • developing standard operating procedures
  • developing and implementing all required approved training programs
  • issuing directives and notices to the flight crews as required
  • the operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and
  • Routes served
  • the actioning and distribution of accident, incident, and other occurrence
  • Reports

 

  • Advise the management team on key planning issues and make recommendations on important business decisions.
  • Strategic planning and resource allocation
  • Establish operational processes / process improvement
  • Manage strategy implementation, in particular regarding budgets and timelines
  • Ensure quality control of all company output as pertains to customer acquisition and delivery of services
  • Ensure all department heads are fully informed of operational objectives
  • Set operational and / or performance goals for each department which are aggressive, achievable and tied to long-term goals
  • Monitor department performance against performance goals to ensure that progress is being made
  • Conduct regular meetings with departmental heads to ensure that priorities are clear and coordination is good.
  • Ensure activities comply with organisational requirements for quality management, legal stipulations and general duty of care.
  • Take charge in high-priority crises.
  • Responsible for International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit.
  • In depth knowledge      of applicable and associated Commercial Air Services Standards
  • Liaisons with the      regulatory authority on matters concerning flight operations
  • Responsible for      flight operations document control to include the maintenance of flight      operations and aircraft operating manuals
  • Responsible for      oversight of all the organization’s programmes

  1. 3.   Director, Flight Operations

Responsible to the Chief Operating Officer for providing leadership, tactical direction and oversight for the Flight Operations team to ensure efficient and safe flight operations. Responsibility for the Flight Operations annual business plan and budgets.

  • Leads      the Flight Operations team: responsible for the supervision, manning and      efficiency of the team
  • Ensures      safe flight operations
  • Functions      as the Chief Pilot as required
  • Responsible      for the qualifications of flight crews
  • Responsible      for the professional standards of the flight crews, in particular:

 Responsible for Flight Operations quality assurance

  • Liaisons      with the regulatory authority on matters concerning flight operations
  • Responsible      for flight operations document control to include the maintenance of      flight operations and aircraft operating manuals
  • Responsible      for all the organization’s flight operations programmes
  • Responsible      for International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety      Audit (IOSA) flight operations and line operations requirements
  • In      the event of an absence, delegates all responsibilities for duties to      another qualified individual

Experience & Business Knowledge

  • Must      hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot License (aeroplanes), a valid      Instrument Rating appropriate for the group of aeroplane and a type rating      for at least one of the types of aeroplanes
  • Have      at least 10 years aeroplane experience (commercial operations experience      not required) as pilot-in-command of an aeroplane that has a MTOW of more      than 8 618 kg (19,000 pounds) and type of charter operations      (domestic/international passenger)
  • Must      have the depth of skills and expertise required for the position
  • Previous      management experience at an international carrier preferred
  • Demonstrated      leadership and management experience.  This experience should include      labour relations, human resources issues, budgeting, project management      oversight and administrative skills
  • Negotiation      skills and experience in conflict management
  • Must      have superior interpersonal skills
  • Have      demonstrated achievements in specific quality areas and/or issues
  • In      depth knowledge of applicable and associated Commercial Air Services      Standards
  • Past      active participation in aviation forums (working groups, trade      associations, committees, etc.)
  • Excellent      oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced      use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail
  1. CHIEF ENGINEer

 

Responsible to the Chief Operating Officer for providing leadership, tactical direction and oversight for the Engineering team and aircraft engineering maintenance to ensure efficient and safe flight operations. You will be responsible for the efficient operation of the aircraft maintenance facility including scheduling and budgeting. The ideal candidate will also oversee the work of engineering maintenance staff (aviation maintenance workers, and licensed aircraft maintenance engineers

 

  • Responsible for liaison with customers (MRO’s, support airlines etc), contractors and suppliers.
  • direct the formulation of engineering strategies, policies and plans
  • ensure engineering standards of quality, cost, safety, timeliness and performance are met
  • work out and put into place project and work schedules and budgets
  • make sure that there is conformity with specifications and plans and with laws, regulations and safety standards
  • oversee maintenance requirements to optimise efficiency
  • coordinate the activities of engineering staff and control engineering staff selection and training

  • have good, and correct colour, vision (colour blindness may make people unsuitable for some aircraft trades)
  • be able to work in confined spaces and at heights on platforms around aircraft

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

 

All roles are for qualified and experienced expatriates who have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the aviation industry and are willing to relocate to Lagos, Nigeria. Must be dexterous in the use of the English Language. Being bilingual is an added advantage.
