Introduction

Adexen HR and Recruitment services has been mandated by one its clients to recruit a General Manager for its Local Service Centre (LSC) Business Unit in Nigeria.

Company

Our client is a French headquartered multinational company which holds interests in integrated power plants for the production of electricity and air quality control systems. The company also provides solutions in the energy sector - coal, gas, nuclear, fuel-oil, hydro-power, wind.
 

Job description

The main purpose of the job is to manage the LSC Business Unit including sales & tendering, engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, project management, gas turbine operations team and site/onshore activities.

Organisational Reporting

The GM will report to the North West Africa Director within South West Europe & Africa area and ensure also the usual /legal reports with CP/host entity.

Authority

  • Dominion of market and/ or fleet.
  • Investments and contracts up to certain limits in scope and size
  • Headcount planning (recruitment, restructuring)
  • Right of command to functional reports in the countries (taking into account regulations according the Delegation of Authority)
     

Responsibilities

  • Align operational priorities with Business strategies. Complete the development of capabilities in LSC business Unit with the support of Global Functions to reach autonomy as other mature units. Identify, develop and retain local talents to take middle and top management positions.
  • Ensure that all operational processes and practices are in line with company policies and business guidelines and drive continuous improvement.
  • Represent Nigeria LSC in front of customers and other external stakeholders, employees and company's country organisation.

Accountabilities

The General Manager is accountable for:

  • Operational performances of business unit including, in addition to financial KPIs, proactive and accurate expenses and project controlling, on-time-delivery, EHS for all sites managed by the Unit and people development process.
  • Managing commercial process from the tendering to the execution of the project.
  • Compliance with local legal and statutory requirements and obligations relevant to the LSC’s operations.

Critical challenges

  • Ensure world-class quality: on-time-delivery, 5S and EHS
  • Develop local competencies in term of GT operation / maintenance, project management…
  • Analyse Business Unit position on local market and define development strategy.
  • Increase market share and business unit profitability
  • Develop local managers competencies

KPI

  • Sales Objective : €6 million
  • Order Intake : Target 6/10 million € orders per year.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following

Educational Requirements

Engineering or business school graduate or post-graduate.

Knowledge and Experience

More than 6 years experience in industries preferably involving large infrastructure projects (including > 2 years in a leadership position). Multicultural working experience is required. Fluency in English. French speaking will be a plus. Good knowledge of Nigerian environment.

Technical Skills

Industrial / large infrastructure project experience.

Behavioural Skills

Leadership by example, resilience and focus, prompt in identifying critical operational details to drive problem solving and continuous improvement, skills for clear communications and analytical approach, inclined to easy / informal contacts with employees and do coaching, open and objective toward other cultures.
